When I was recovering I had many questions but no one could give me any answers so I had to really struggle and find the answers myself by trial and error, the questions and answers section has been included to help people with any problems that they may have and make recovery easier and quicker.

Question After attending AA meetings I feel worse than when I went in, and I get really bad critical voices afterwards which make me feel ashamed etc, why do you think this happens.
Answer At AA meetings, particularly at beginners meetings, recovered members often say something in an untrue way, laugh when it isn’t funny, like something they don’t really like etc, and if you are suffering from mental illness or even if you didn’t get enough sleep the night before and are suffering from a lack of sleep you can be fooled by them and believe what they are saying and some critical voices enjoy making you suffer due to this.
I have found that if you put everything that is said during the meeting to the reality test (is it true or not) and don’t believe anything that isn’t or doesn’t seem true, even if it’s only a little bit or vaguely untrue, you can come out of the meeting unscathed.
